The Christmas season is one of the happiest times of all the year,
filled with warm memories of past holidays and full of the excitement of
planning to share another Christmas with family and friends. Our hearts are
softened toward each other and it seems easier to forgive a hurt or an
unkindness when we remember that tender and timeless story of the birth of the
Baby Jesus in a Bethlehem stable nearly 2,000 years ago.
Today we want your hearts to be soft and kind to each other and 10A
helps us to do this.

Christmas song
Host 2
Christmas is a beautiful
holiday, which is loved by children and adults; when everything is decorated
with lights and toys; when we see Christmas trees everywhere; when people
buy presents and cook special food, send cards and have parties!
Host 1
It
is the family event, all are gathering at one table, act the scene about Christ
birth, play games, sing Christmas songs and tell dreadful stories.
Well, the main thing is that obedient and
loving children get the Christmas presents. They hang their little stockings at
the fireplace. In the morning they find that the stockings are full of
presents. They were sent by Santa.
Do you know why English
people hang stockings on the fireplace? 10B will show you one of the variants
of this tradition.
10B Christmas Traditions + Christmas song
Host 2
You have seen one of the versions. The
custom of hanging stockings on the mantel to be filled with treats and presents
is said to have originated in Norway.

What holyday without Santa Claus? The original Santa Claus, St. Nicholas
was born in Turkey in the fourth century. He was imprisoned and tortured.
Constantine the emperor of Rome allowed Nicolas to go free.
Santa Claus is said to live at
the North Pole with his
wife, where he spends the year making toys with the help of his elves. There he
receives letters from children asking for Christmas gifts. On Christmas Eve he
loads his sleigh with toys and flies around the world, drawn by eight reindeer, stopping at each child’s house;
he slides down the chimney and leaves the gifts, refreshing himself with the
milk and cookies left for him by the household’s children.
Host 2
In 1930’s the Coca-Cola
Company ran an advertisement showing Santa Claus the way we know him now;
rather fat and jolly, with his red suit and long white whiskers.
11B proposes you to live one day with Santa Claus.

Christmas is one of the biggest
celebrations for the people belonging to the Christian faith. But it would be
wrong to assume that it is only celebrated among the Christians. With the world
becoming a global village, Christmas is now celebrated in many countries around
the world.

All over the world, Christmas
celebrations reflect local culture and traditions. The festivities can be
startlingly different from country to country, focusing on different aspects of
the nativity story
Christmas traditions vary greatly
from continent to continent, but you don’t need to take a trip around the world
to learn about them.
Let’s have such a trip with 11A

Often hailed “the most wonderful
time of the year,” Christmas is a season of unity. This doesn’t just extend to
family; Christmas is one of those rare occasions which truly unites people
world-wide and this holiday unites us today.
6C Song
Visit to Santa Claus
Narrator: The North Pole home with Santa, the elves and the reindeer.
One Christmas many years ago Santa was very busy. Almost all the toys were wrapped, and
Santa was busily reading the last letters sent to him that year. Santa finally finished the last letter.
Santa: The last letter. We have just two more days to work. The gifts are almost ready for the
boys and girls.
Elf 1: It won’t be long now. It will be Christmas Eve. We sure had lots of letters this year.
Elf 2 Even the reindeer are excited. Rudolph has been keeping his nose shined up in case of
fog.
Elf 1: Here Santa, help yourself. Sit back and relax.
Santa: Thank you, dear. Ahh! This chocolate celebrates a job well done by all.
Elf 2 takes a letter from the reindeer and gives it to Santa.
Elf 2: Santa, Rudolph gave me this letter. He says the reindeer nuzzled it from under the
snow.
Elf 1: It looks like it has been on the ground for a long time.
Santa opens it and begins reading.
Santa: Dear Santa, my name is Joey and I live near the edge of the town with my mum. And I am writing to tell you what I want for Christmas. My dad is a sailor and he has been gone a long time. I have been very good all year. I like toys, but what I really want is to have Dad come home and see us this Christmas. Thank you. Love. Joey.
Santa leans back and looks at the envelope.
Santa: Why, this letter must have been lost all year. It’s dated one year ago today. Little Joey
never heard From me last year. What can I do? (thinking)
Narrator: Tom and his friend are sleeping on a ship. On a ship a sailor turns on his cot and finally
awakens. His friend also wakes up.
Sailor: Tom , You’ve been talking in your sleep. You said something about your wife and kids.
Tom: I was having a dream. I dreamt I was home again talking to Sara and Joey, my little girl.
I miss them so much. If only I could get home this Christmas.
Sailor: We are in port now. Maybe the captain would let you visit them for a few days. WE
aren’t leaving for two weeks.
Tom: I wonder. (thinking)
Narrator: It is Christmas morning at Joey’s home. Mother carries a stocking AND calls Joey and
she enters without a smile.
Sara: Joey, you have some presents to open. Oh, what a nice doll you have.
Joey: I know, but Santa didn’t bring me what I wanted. He did not bring Dad home last year,
so I didn’t write him this year.
There is a tap on the door.
Sara: Who is it?
Tom enters.
Tom: Hello, family! It’s me. The captain said I could come home. I just got off the train. Hi,
Sara, Joey!
They all stare in disbelief. They run to him and embrace.
Sara: What a surprise! I can’t believe in it.
Joey: My lovely dad! I am so happy!
Tom: Joey, when I came to the door, I found this letter. It has your name on it. (He hands the
letter to Joey)
Joey: (reading the letter aloud) Dear Joey, I am so sorry I didn’t get to your house last
Christmas. Your letter came to me just two days ago. It had been list for a whole year under the
snow. I felt very sad. I am so glad you will see your father this year. Have a very merry
Christmas! Love, Santa.
Joey smiles and cries out: Oh dad! This is the best Christmas ever. Thank you, Santa!
Christmas Tradition
Once upon a time a poor nobleman and his three daughters lived. The father
was depressed as his daughters could not marry without dowries.
Daughters are cleaning
the room. Father appears
Father: Oh my beloved daughters. We are so poor. I have not enough money
for you. What can I do to make you happy?
Father goes away and

Girls left the room.
One night after the daughters had washed out their clothes they hung their
stockings over the fireplace to dry. That night Saint Nicholas threw three
coins down a chimney of the home of three poor sisters. Each of the coins
landed inside separate stockings.
Morning. One daughter comes into the room and finds a coin in her stocking.
Daughter: Girls!girls come here.
Look what is here! Father hurry up! Look what I have found.
Father: Oh, It’s gold! It’s a miracle! Thank you Jesus! Happy Christmas my
daughters. I wish you a Marry Christmas.
Christmas around the World
Mother: What a wonderful evening it
is! I think Christmas is the most favourite holiday of the
year.
Bill: Of course, mum! Mummy,
why do you like Christmas?
Mother:
I love Christmas for many things
Trees, candles, angel wings.
Stars in the heavens, snow covered
hills,
Little toy trains, dolls in their
frills.
I love Christmas, ribbons of gold,
Familiar carols, so very old.
Sweet candy canes, bright red
sleds,
Little ones tucked snug in their
beds.
I love Christmas, but most of all
I look forward to a neighbour’s
call.
A friendly chat, a cup of tea.
Love in the home means Christmas
for me.
Bill: And I like Christmas very
much, too.
A girl (Mary) is sitting at the table at writing a letter to Santa:” Dear
Santa, all year I was a very good girl! I was a hardworking student at school.
I tried always to help my parents and not to make troubles for them. I have a
lot of dreams but my biggest dream is to see you, Santa, and it will be the
best day in my life. So if you can, please, visit me this year.
Bill: - Mary, What are you doing?
Mary:- I am writing a letter to Santa.
Bill: - Writing a letter? Do you really believe in Santa? It is so
childish.
Mary: - Of course I believe! Santa comes to all children in the world and
gives them presents.
Bill:- Ok, how can Santa visit different countries for one night?
- Oh, my God! John, do you think there is the only Santa in the world?
(Mary)
Bill:- Why not? (John)
Mary: - You still don’t know so many things! OK, I will tell you what I
know myself. People in different countries celebrate Christmas and New Year in
different ways. And by the way they have their own Santas.
Bill:- I can’t belive it! Who are you kidding? No, no, no, it’s totally
unacceptable!
Mary: - Yes, he is but… Stop, I know how to prove it. Look! With help of
virtual space we’ll travel around the world and see how people celebrate
Christmas.
Children spin the globe and travel to different countries. There they meet
Santas in their costumes who tell the children about themselves. It can be
short videos with Santa Claus.
French.
je suis le père noël . Père Noël has his own Christmas
traditions.
I wear a long red cloak instead of a red
suit, and children leave their shoes by the fireplace hoping that they will be
filled with goodies after mass on Christmas Eve.
I am tall tall and large, with
ruddy cheeks and nose, bushy eyebrows, a white beard and moustache. My big brown sack is packed full of
toys that will be delivered to every household at midnight, using my sleigh
pulled by reindeers.
I also traditionally travel with a
not-so friendly companion called Père Fouettard, or "the whipping
father," who spanks any children who have not behaved well throughout the
year.
Finish
Olen Joulupukki,
I am Finnish
Santa.
Nowadays,
I still go around to each house and
inquire, "Onko täällä kilttejä lapsia?” (“Are there any
well-behaved children here?”) and hand out presents. I drive a sleigh pulled by reindeer
that does not actually fly.
One of the Christmas
decoration
is the Yule goat made out of straw, like the famous
Gävlebocken in Gavle, Sweden, which has been set on fire 26 times out of 47
years, and has become a somewhat macabre pyrotechnic tradition.
Brazil
Papai Noel in Brazil
I take over the role in Brazil, with
typical flair and style in a country fond of Carnival. Swapping fur-trimmed
velvet for a more tropical red silk suit I arrive by helicopter at the Maracanã
football stadium a few days before Christmas, which is packed with children. Since most houses in the country
are built without chimneys the children leave shoes outside to be filled with
sweets.
Elsewhere
in South America, it is el Niño Jesus, the infant Jesus, who brings presents to
Mexico, Columbia and Costa Rica. While in Puerto Rico there is a second day of
celebration on the Epiphany, to celebrate when the Magi arrived bearing gifts.
Children place grass under their beds for the camels on which they travel, and
awake to find their kindness rewarded.
Christmas in Italy with the witch
Befana
Sono Babbo Natale. Babbo Natale, Italy’s
version of Santa Claus, is becoming more popular and gift giving on Christmas
day is becoming more common. La Befana, the old woman who delivers gifts on
Epiphany, January 6 is still the more popular Italian Christmas figure. Babbo Natale, or Father Christmas is gaining
popularity in Italy.
The first Jester: Whether the weather is fine or whether the
weather is not,
Whether the weather is cold or whether the
weather is hot.
We'll weather the weather whatever the
weather,
Whether we like it or not.
The second Jester :I think it will be rainy!
Queen: What terrible weather!
Jester : The queen isn’t happy. We must make her laugh.
Let’s sing our song.(Шуты поют и танцуют)
Call me if
you’re feeling sad
Call me if
you’re going mad
Call me
I’llbe very glad
Call me Mr
Jester
When I’m
going round the bend,
When I want
to laugh again
WhenI
really need a friend,
I call Mr
Jester.
Mr. Jester
laughs and sings
Look! He’s
doing funny things
Bingle,
bangle, bells that ring- we love Mr. Jester.
Prince: I am sad and alone. I am
looking for a bride who was not only beautiful, but also well-born, with
elegance and manners found only in those of noble birth and background.
Queen : My dear son! Why are you so sad?
Prince: I have been travelling for a long time to
find a bride. I have found a lot of beautiful ladies. But there was always
something wrong.
Queen : Don’t worry my dear. One day you will meet a
real princess. Yes, it’s time for you to be married. I want nothing but the
best for my son. Son, you deserve the best woman in the whole world. Do not
settle just any pretty face. A prince must be married to a real princess.
But
remember a real princess is not just the daughter of a king or a queen. A real
princess is delicate and refined, and eats only the finest foods. She is
well-educated, and read only the greatest books and poems. She wears the
loveliest dresses and carries herself with grace and dignity. But the first
thing you will notice, a real princess has the voice of an angel.(Звук дождя. Шуты под зонтами)
Jester: Look, it is raining!
Jester: Yes, it is dreadful!
Servant: Who’s that so late on a night like this? There
is a thunder and lightning. And the rain is pouring down from the sky in
torrents.
Princess: I’m a princess seeking a shelter for myself.
My carriage has broken down and the coachman can’t repair it till tomorrow. Can
I please spend the night in your castle? I have nowhere to go in this miserable
storm. I am a true princess who is in need of your kindness.
Servant: Of course, you are welcome to stay here, good
lady. Allow me to take your coat.
Thank you
so much, kind sir. (Слуга
снимает плащ с принцессы, принцесса проходит в комнату)
Princess: Hello!
Prince : Hello!( a real princess has the voice of an
angel)
Queen: We will soon find out if she is indeed a true
princess.
Sebastian,
(слуга) Servant: Yes,your majesty. Queen: Prepare a soft soft bed in the
blue room. I’ll come myself and make sure everything is in order. We will put
her a test. Tonight we will dress her bed with 20 of the softest fluffiest most
luxurious feather mattresses in the castle. Then under the 20 matresses we will
place a single uncooked pea. If this pea disturbs her sleep, then we will know:
only a real princess would be delicate and refined enough to feel the pea.
(Good-night song) Queen: Here we are. That’s a
bedroom. Good night. Sweet dreams. See you in the morning. Princess: Good-night. Thank you.” Good morning”. Поет и танцует шут с солнцем)
Queen: Did you sleep well? Was the bed comfortable?
Princess: Oh, miserably! I scarcely closed my eyes all
night long. I lay upon something hard, so that I am black and blue all over. It
is quite dreadful. I am so tired.
Servant: A real princess at last! Just think! She could
feel the pea the queen hid under the matress! Now , only a well-born lady could do that!
